'Rufname' - a german word for 'first name' or name by which a person
is generally known. The Rufname is a German word, it means the one
of your given names that you are normally known by.

An interesting website about name giving is

One of my late wife's ancestors was a Johan Thorvald Albert Schreiber.
He was usually called Thor, and that is how I found him in the census.
That was his Rufname. But in some records he was Johan Schreiber.
It did not make it easy to always find him. Then in one census, his name
was transcribed Thos. Schreiber (note the s instead of the r that was
written) and I might never have found him except by finding his wife
and children.

In my program I put the Rufname in the nickname slot which makes
it come out like: Johan Thorvald Albert "Thor" Schreiber. Do not put
too much weight on the Rufname. People will do as they like with a
person's name. I have spent about a third of my life correcting the
spelling and/or pronunciation of my name, and still it is usually spelled
or pronounced incorrectly.
